Jeff Kraayeveld of Skyview High School Named the Regional Nominee for The 2018 – 2019 Newell National Athletic Trainer of the Year Award

Jeff Kraayeveld, A.T.C., L.A.T., of Skyview High School has been named the Regional Nominee for The 2018 – 2019 Newell National Athletic Trainer of the Year Award. As the Regional Nominee, Kraayeveld will advance on to join other Regional Nominees from across the nation to be considered for the title of The Newell Award National Athletic Trainer of the Year, which will be announced in the coming weeks.

In partnership with local leading orthopedic practices, such as Rebound Orthopedics & Neurosurgery in Vancouver as well as Portland and Lake Oswego, Oregon, The 2018 – 2019 Newell National Athletic Trainer of the Year Award recognizes athletic trainers for the service and leadership they provide to local athletic communities. Based on examples of service, leadership and shared experiences from community members, nominees for The Newell National Athletic Trainer of the Year Award are determined regionally. Over 150 exceptional shared experiences from community members were received in support of Kraayeveld’s regional nomination for the National Award.

“The outpouring of support from community members on Mr. Kraayeveld’s behalf has been heartwarming and certainly well-deserved,” says Dr. James Chesnutt, specialty-trained sports medicine doctor at Rebound Orthopedics & Neurosurgery. “We feel honored to acknowledge his efforts by partnering with The Newell Award to recognize the region’s top athletic trainers for the service and leadership they display while treating our community’s athletes.”

In practice since 2002, Kraayeveld specializes in injury prevention and rehabilitation of overhead athletes, concussion management and ACL rehabilitation in the clinic setting. He graduated from Washington State University in Pullman with a Bachelor of Science degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in athletic training. He previously completed an internship with the Seattle Seahawks of the NFL and was the co-head athletic trainer for the Portland Lumberjax, a professional lacrosse team. Kraayeveld has provided athletic training services for the last nine years for Skyview High School, and he supported the implementation of the Vancouver School District concussion protocol. He has developed a throwing program specializing in video analysis of the throwing motion, and he works closely with local youth, high school and collegiate baseball athletes.

In addition to Kraayeveld, there were other exceptional candidates considered for regional nomination for The 2018 – 2019 Newell National Athletic Trainer of the Year Award, including Kim Deaver, M.Ed., A.T.C., of Lakeridge High School and Becca Feuerherd, M.Ed., A.T.C., of West Linn High School.
